Failed Searches Within Aviasales Mobile App Plunge with Integration of Neumob’s SDK
Mobile search errors within flight booking app drop by 67%, as Aviasales app speed increases by up to 131%
Aviasales is Russia’s largest travel search engine, and provide an exceptionally popular mobile travel app to consumers in Russia and around the world. They allow customers to rapidly find and book cheap flights both on their smartphones and online. The company also books airline travel outside of Russia under the JetRadar brand, while also managing a global hotel metasearch app called Hotellook.
For mobile travel booking apps like Aviasales, converting consumer searches for flights into booked airline tickets is paramount. No matter how well-engineered an app is, these searches can be easily frustrated by mobile network errors such as timeouts, which lead to customer abandonment and loss of revenue. Transactions need to be quick, short and painless, or customers will move their bookings to another mobile app.
As the popularity of the Aviasales app increased, so did the company’s reliance on mobile networks around the world. The app’s popularity and usage is especially concentrated across Russia, Ukraine and Turkey, yet significant customer traffic also now takes place in the United States, China, Germany and various Asian countries.
For Aviasales, search error reduction within their app was the #1 requirement. Knowing that Russian and Eastern European mobile networks can be especially complicated, the company turned to Neumob and its 2-line SDK for help in reducing errors and speeding up overall mobile performance.
The introduction of the Neumob SDK immediately reduced mobile network search errors within the Aviasales app from 1.5% to 0.5%, representing a massive improvement in transaction-killing timeouts – for instance, when a user looking for a flight receives an error message instead. This 67% error reduction addresses a crucial business metric, and as Seva Billevich, Aviasales’ Mobile Development Team Lead, said, “the number of users complaining about network errors in the app has now significantly decreased”.
Because only an SDK can retry when connection failures such as network issues or origin delays occur, Neumob greatly increased the likelihood of delivering these critical requests to Aviasales customers, which in turn increased completed transactions and flight bookings.
Moreover, Neumob sped up mobile ad delivery worldwide by 66%, leading to more ad impressions and higher advertising revenues. Overall, the Aviasales app was 120% faster in China; 97% faster in Singapore; 82% in Brazil; 31% in Germany and even 33% faster in Russia, the company’s primary market.
Unsurprisingly, Neumob dramatically improved mobile app speeds on slower networks, clocking a 34% improvement on 2G-EDGE networks, 24% faster speeds on 3G, and a 39% improvement on 4G/LTE networks as well.
Aviasales, delighted with the reduction in errors and improved app performance, are now moving to add the Neumob SDK to more of their apps. Billevich testified that “Neumob has done exactly what we needed it to do: reduce errors that keep our customers from completing their transactions. Now, as Aviasales continues to expand our apps into new countries and onto new mobile networks, we can do so with the confidence that network errors will be totally under control”.
