HotelTonight Sees Increase in Booking Conversions with Neumob’s SDK

Global increase in mobile app bookings attributable to Neumob app acceleration, driving improved user experience and higher revenues

HotelTonight is an innovative and globally popular last-minute, mobile-first travel application for iOS and Android.

The app provides easy on-the-go booking of same-day unsold hotel inventory. For their 25,000+ hotel partners, the company offers a marketplace to fill empty rooms, while travelers benefit from convenience and great value at quality hotels. HotelTonight now operates in more than 35 countries around the world and is synonymous with “last-minute travel” in their chosen markets.

The Challenge

As a truly mobile-native company, HotelTonight is one of the most advanced, tech-savvy companies Neumob has worked with. Benchmarked against other travel apps in the industry, the HotelTonight app was already one of the best engineered, with industry-leading performance and among the fewest in-app errors.

The company had already been using one of the world’s fastest website CDNs to accelerate its mobile traffic. At first, HotelTonight had been skeptical that Neumob could improve what they already had in place. Their app was already well-instrumented, with best of breed technologies embedded in their mobile apps, including SDKs from Apptimize, Mixpanel, Amplitude, AFNetworking, Pubnub and SocketRocket, in addition to the company’s own technology.

In a previous attempt to boost app performance, HotelTonight ran a project that decreased image size and resolution for app traffic running only on 3G networks, as opposed to traffic running on faster 4G/LTE networks. Unfortunately, the company saw zero improvement in booking conversions after they’d modified their images on 3G, and that this change made no practical difference for their users.

As mobile innovators and trailblazers, HotelTonight decided to give Neumob a shot.

The Results

With Neumob enabled and accelerating user traffic around the world, HotelTonight consumers found a faster, more reliable path to check-out, and responded accordingly. These amazing results demonstrate the direct correlation that faster mobile app performance, combined with reduced mobile network errors, has with increased bookings and revenue.

Booking Conversion Rates Went Up.

HotelTonight increased in-app conversions in the United States, and saw increased bookings in high-growth areas such as the UK, France and Germany once Neumob’s SDK was installed.

Moreover, HotelTonight already had an industry low mobile network error rate with its app, yet Neumob reduced the rate of mobile carrier-caused errors further, taking it below 1% in all key travel markets. This means even fewer missing images and fewer chances for any sort of visible error or carrier timeout within the HotelTonight app, providing a more seamless user experience.
